High wind warnings and wind advisories issued across New Mexico
Some places could see wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour
WE ARE IN WEATHER ALERT MODE WITH A HIGH WIND WARNING ISSUED FOR ALBUQUERQUE. WE ONLY CATCH A COUPLE OF THESE PER YEAR, BUT IT’S A STRONG WIND BLOWING DUST. AND THERE WILL BE A BIG COOL DOWN. WE QUICKLY WARM UP IN THE WAKE OF THIS THOUGH, AND CHALLENGE RECORDS AGAIN BY SUNDAY AND MONDAY. WE HAVE SOME SMALL RAIN CHANCES AND ALSO THAT THREAT OF VIRGA AND THE DRY LIGHTNING TO TALK ABOUT HERE. BUT THAT DOESN’T HAPPEN TODAY. TODAY IT’S ALL ABOUT THE EAST WINDS GETTING UNLEASHED AS THAT COLD FRONT SLID THROUGH OVERNIGHT. THERE’S NO MOISTURE COMING TODAY. IN FACT, WE SHOULD STILL SEE SUNSHINE. GRANITE WILL BE THAT BLURRED OUT SUN WITH THE DUST IN THE AIR. IT’S 50 AND 60 DEGREE HIGH TEMPERATURES, THOUGH FOR EASTERN AND CENTRAL NEW MEXICO. YOU KNOW, OUT WEST, WE’RE STILL INTO THE 70S IN A COUPLE SPOTS HERE IN THE SOUTHWEST, STILL PEG UP AT 80 DEGREES. THOSE WINDS BACKING INTO ALBUQUERQUE HERE BEFORE SUNRISE. IT’S PRETTY GUSTY OUT EAST. THERE’S PROBABLY A MID OR LATE MORNING WIND MAX HERE, WITH GUSTS NEAR 60 FOR ALBUQUERQUE. AND THEN THE WIND IS NOT QUITE AS STRONG AS WE MARCH THROUGH THE AFTERNOON, BUT STILL GUSTS IN THE 50 MILE PER HOUR RANGE WELL INTO THE DINNER HOUR. AND THEN FINALLY DOES LAY DOWN A LITTLE BIT MORE SIGNIFICANTLY LATER ON THIS EVENING TOWARDS MIDNIGHT, YOU CAN SEE THE WIND ADVISORIES AND HIGH WIND WARNINGS. WIND ADVISORIES ARE THIS DARKER BLUE SHADE. THE LIGHTER BLUE SHADE ARE FOR THE WIND WARNINGS THAT DO INCLUDE ALBUQUERQUE, BUT ALSO STRETCH THROUGH THE SACRAMENTO MOUNTAINS AND SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO, AND ALSO THE SOUTHWEST OF THE I-10 CORRIDOR. WITH BLOWING DUST LOOKING LIKELY. BLOWING DUST ADVISORIES WILL TAKE EFFECT. TRAVEL CONDITIONS WILL BE DIFFICULT HERE. WE ARE INTO THE OVERNIGHT AS THOSE WINDS LIGHTEN UP. LOOK AT SANTA FE CLOSE TO FREEZING. WE’LL BE DOWN AROUND 40. ALBUQUERQUE. LOTS OF SPOTS WILL DROP INTO THE 30S TONIGHT, SO IT’LL BE A MUCH COLDER NIGHT. THE GOOD NEWS IS, BY TOMORROW MORNING, DAYBREAK, YOU CAN SEE THE WINDS ARE BASICALLY ALL DONE. THIS IS OUR SATURDAY. YOU KNOW, WE RIDE OUT THAT CHILLY MORNING, BUT THE AFTERNOON HAS US BACK IN THE 60S AND 70S EXPECT A PARTLY CLOUDY SKY OUT THERE AND THE BREEZE IS GOING TO BE RELATIVELY LIGHT FOR MOST OF US. YOU CAN SEE UP THERE IN THE NORTHEAST NEW MEXICO, THOUGH WE COULD STILL GET SOME GUSTS IN THE 20 AND 30 MILE PER HOUR RANGE. SUNDAY IS PROBABLY GOING TO GO DOWN AS THE PICK DAY OF THE WEEK, AND IT MAY NOT BE ALL THE WAY DRY, BUT IT CERTAINLY WILL BE WARMER. WE’LL HAVE THOSE PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES, AND THERE’S JUST MAYBE A COUPLE SPOTS OF RAIN, PRIMARILY HERE IN WESTERN NEW MEXICO. BUT MORE OF THAT COULD BE VIRGA AND A DRY THUNDERSTORM THAT PRODUCES A LIGHTNING STRIKE, AND THAT COULD LEAD TO A FIRE START. NOTE JUST SLIGHTLY BREEZY IN NORTHERN NEW MEXICO ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON. HERE’S THAT SEVEN DAY FORECAST. THIS IS GOING TO BE A ROUGH ONE. WE’RE IN WEATHER ALERT MODE ALL THE WAY UNTIL 10:00 TONIGHT. IT’S A CHILLY START TO SATURDAY, BUT SATURDAY AFTERNOON LOOKS MILD. SUNDAY, MONDAY EVEN INTO
