Temperatures continue to heat up across New Mexico with record heat possible in several locations. Spotty storm chances return later this week with a mix of wet and dry storms.
It’s an even hotter afternoon Tuesday across New Mexico with triple-digit heat as far north as the Albuquerque Metro. Temperatures are in the 90s up to Taos and southwest Colorado. A few spotty showers are trying to develop in western New Mexico, but most if not all of the rain is evaporating before reaching the ground. The heat isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Wednesday will be even hotter with a few places nearly breaking record high temperatures. Wednesday will come with more showers and thunderstorms across the state, but just like today, most of the rain will evaporate before reaching the ground. That could cause some gusty winds with blowing dust. Lightning could also spark new wildfires.
More record and near record high temperatures are likely Thursday afternoon. A few spotty storms could again pop up mainly over the mountains. This will be the same story for Friday, however highs may be one or two degrees cooler.
Rain chances increase more this weekend, but the chance will still be very isolated. The increase in cloud cover will bring temperatures down another couple degrees through the weekend. Better monsoon moisture will stream into the state early next week as the strong area of high pressure overhead right now will break down and move east. This will bring high temperatures back down closer to average with higher chances for rain and thunderstorms across the state.
