GRANT COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – A Grant County Sheriff’s Office deputy is facing charges after police say he claimed working overtime during a wildfire when he was actually home. Deputy Aaron Ordonez is charged with receiving public money for services not rendered.
According to a criminal complaint, in June, he was assigned to work overtime during the Trout Fire near Silver City. His supervisor tried to reach him and even showed up at his house, telling the deputy he was supposed to be working. Even though his supervisor saw him at home, police said Deputy Ordonez logged eleven hours of overtime, which would be more than $400 extra.
He’s expected back in court next week.
