SABINAL, Texas

Dangerous heavy rain has been hammering parts of Texas. In Uvalde County, more than half a year’s worth of rain has fallen.

The relentless rain has led to dozens of water rescues in the region. One such rescue was caught on video as a good Samaritan came to the aid of a man who had been swept into a flooded creek.

David Flores was able to capture the moment he went into Elm Creek to save a man named Nathan who had been swept away.

This all happened around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday as Sabinal was getting hit hard by more than 12 inches of rain.

Video shows Flores asking the man to keep talking and try to grab onto a tree.

Another video clip shows just how high the water is — all the way up to Flores’ chest — and then he points the camera at Nathan, who can be seen hanging onto the tree and trying to catch his breath.

“You got it. OK. Hi, Nathan, hang on,” Flores said during the rescue. “You got to take a break.”

Eventually, Flores reached Nathan, and thankfully, both men were able to get out safely.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says more than 75 people have been rescued from rising floodwaters across the state.

There has been “one loss of life” in the catastrophic flooding, Abbott said Thursday.
