The lightning-caused Frijoles Fire burning in the Pecos Wilderness Area continues to grow and force evacuations for parts of Santa Fe County.

The fire has burned 9,338 acres in steep terrain 3 miles southeast of Cundiyo, New Mexico. It is 12% contained.

Evacuation information

The following evacuation statuses have been issued by officials:

  • GO: Camino de Canon in Cundiyo
  • SET: Community of Cundiyo and Cerro Pinon
  • READY: Cordova, Borrego Mesa and Nambe Pueblo Lake Area

Those who have evacuated can go to the Pojoaque Valley Middle School Gym at 1797 State Road 502 in Pojoaque.

Air Quality and Firefighting Efforts

Fire crews are working to construct bulldozer lines west of the fire.

Fire officials say sprinkler systems and water supplies have been secured for areas east of Cundiyo and Gorham Boy Scout Ranch as crews continue to improve structure protection preparation.

Crews are preparing Forest Road 424 to be used as a containment line to try and tie it into previous fuel reduction.

Smoke from the fire can be seen throughout New Mexico.

An air quality alert has been issued for Santa Fe due to thick smoke from the wildfire.
