IT’S COLD OUT THIS MORNING. WE’RE JUST TALKING ABOUT HOW WE NEEDED A JACKET COMING IN. AND THERE’S EVEN SOME FREEZE WARNINGS ACROSS THE STATE FOR PLACES LIKE SANTA FE, WHERE WE’VE GOT OUR EYES ON THE PLAZA. IT’S A PLANT TESTING MORNING HERE. WE’VE BEEN DOWN TO 33 IN SANTA FE SO FAR, AND THERE STILL IS PROBABLY ANOTHER HOUR OR TWO BEFORE THE TEMPERATURE WILL TURN AROUND AND START TO WARM BACK UP. SO RIGHT DOWN AROUND FREEZING IN SANTA FE AND OTHER SPOTS IN NORTHERN NEW MEXICO. THIS IS THE LOW POINT, THOUGH. TEMPERATURES ONLY CLIMB FROM HERE. RAIN AND SNOW CHANCES GOING FORWARD, ALMOST ZIA ROAD OUT FOR MOST OF US. RECORD CHALLENGING HIGHS POSSIBLE BY NEXT WEEK. STILL RIDING OUT A CONNECTION TO THAT NORTHWESTERLY FLOW. BUT WE START TO LOSE THAT TODAY AND TOMORROW, AND THE STORM TRACK IS GOING TO SHIFT BACK TO THE NORTH. SO WE EXPECT DRY SKIES GOING FORWARD FOR AT LEAST THE NEXT FEW DAYS. TEMPERATURES THIS AFTERNOON, IT’S UPPER 60S LOW AND MID 70S AND SOME UPPER 70 TO NEAR 80 DEGREE HIGHS. IN SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO. IT IS JUST THAT LIKE IDEAL SPRINGTIME TEMPERATURE RANGE. SUPER COMFORTABLE WITH THIS AFTERNOON. JUST A LITTLE HIGH CLOUD COVER IN THE MIX. AND YOU CAN SEE OUR FORECAST WIND GUSTS. THE HIGHER END OF THE WIND SPEEDS. YOU’LL ONLY GET INTO THE TEENS AND ABOVE 20 IN JUST A COUPLE LOCATIONS. SO IT’S A RELATIVELY LIGHT WIND DAY NOW. TONIGHT, ANOTHER CHILLY ONE WITH LOWS CLOSE TO FREEZING IN OUR COLD SPOTS. IT’S ABOUT A TEN DEGREE JUMP OVER WHERE WE TOP OUT TODAY. COOL SPOTS UP NORTH IN THE 70S, ALBUQUERQUE BACK IN THE 80S, NOT YET TOUCHING 90 IN SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO JUST YET. BUT WE COULD OVER THE WEEKEND. I THINK OUR FRIDAY AFTERNOON IS SET TO BE JUST A LITTLE BREEZIER THAN WHAT WE GET OUT OF TODAY, BUT IT’S STILL GENERALLY WIND GUSTS IN THE TEENS TO AROUND 20. HERE YOU GO. NORTHWEST NEW MEXICO, FOUR CORNERS AREA. YEAH, YOU’RE RIDING OUT A FREEZE WARNING THIS MORNING. AFTERNOON HIGHS WILL BE RIGHT AROUND 70 GIVE OR TAKE. LOWS TONIGHT IN THE MID 30S TO AROUND 40. STILL CHILLY 81 FOR OUR FRIDAY MIDDLE 80S FOR THE WEEKEND. AND LOOK AT THAT JUMP TO NEAR 90 MONDAY AND INTO THE LOWER 90S. RECORD CHALLENGING HIGHS BY TUESDAY. HERE’S SOUTHWEST NEW MEXICO NUMBERS ALL OVER THE 70S TO AROUND 80 DEGREES. WE ARE STEPPING UP TOMORROW TO HITTING 80 IN SILVER CITY IN ITS MID 80S IN SILVER CITY FOR THE WEEKEND. THAT MEANS PROBABLY LOWER 90S OFF THE MOUNTAINS, MAYBE SOME SLIGHT CHANCES AT STORMS AS WE HEAD TOWARDS THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK, SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO. WELL, ITS HIGHS GENERALLY IN THE 70S. RUIDOSO AT 68. JUST A VERY PLEASANT AFTERNOON. WE’RE UP TEN TOMORROW AND IN THE MID 90S SATURDAY, DROPPING BACK TO 86 SUNDAY. AND THEN THE HEAT SPIKES. THAT WOULD BE A RECORD TYING 100 ON TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK. HERE’S NORTHEAST NEW MEXICO EITHER IN THE 60S OR 70S THIS AFTERNOON AFTER WE RIDE OUT THAT FREEZE WARNING THIS MORNING. SO IT’S AN IMPACT. MORNING 37 WILL BE TONIGHT’S LOW. HOW ABOUT A 75 TOMORROW? 80 SATURDAY, NORTHEAST NEW MEXICO. WE ARE EYEING UP THE POTENTIAL FOR SOME AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS ON MOTHER’S DAY SUNDAY. AND THEN LOOK AT THAT JUMP BACK INTO THE 80S EARLY NEXT WEEK. HERE’S NORTH CENTRAL NEW MEXICO NUMBERS IN THE 60S OR LOW 70S IN THE ESPANOLA VALLEY. AFTER THIS MORNING’S FREEZE WARNING, TONIGHT’S LOW IN SANTA FE, 4176, TOMORROW 80. SATURDAY, WE’LL DROP THE NUMBER SLIGHTLY SUNDAY AND THEN JUMP EVEN FURTHER INTO THE 80S EARLY NEXT WEEK FOR THE ALBUQUERQUE METRO. WE’LL LOOK FOR HIGHS IN THE MID 70S TODAY. ENJOY. THIS AFTERNOON. WE’LL KEEP THE WINDS LIGHT. 76 IS OUR AVERAGE HIGH. WE’RE JUST A COUPLE BELOW THAT. TONIGHT’S LOW 47. WE’RE AT 83 TOMORROW NEAR 90 ON SATURDAY. SOME STRONGER AFTERNOON BREEZES KICK UP. Warming trend plays out into the weekend with several days of quiet skies ahead
We kick off this Thursday morning with a healthy chill in the air, many spots in Northern New Mexico are down in the 20s and 30s, and temperatures have dipped down to around 40 degrees in the Albuquerque metro, so have a coat or jacket on as you head out the door. Once we give this day a little time the chill will ease and we will spend the afternoon in the 70s with sunshine and winds that stay fairly light, so this will turn into an almost perfect springtime afternoon!Tonight will be chilly again, but not as cold as this morning, and then tomorrow afternoon we expect temperatures to take a big step up with most of the state climbing into the 80s. Tomorrow will probably be a little breezier with gusts getting into the 15-20 mph range in spots, but it will also be another day with lots of sunshine to enjoy. Saturday will be even warmer than Friday, but also probably a little breezier during the afternoon. On Sunday we do expect temperatures to drop a little, more noticeably in eastern New Mexico, and there will be a chance of scattered to isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms in the eastern part of the state with the highest storm chances in the northeast. Then on Monday and Tuesday skies dry out again and temperatures do another surge upward on us resulting in record-challenging highs on Tuesday. By Wednesday afternoon small chances of storms creep back into the forecast for most.
