Four drivers arrested in Santa Fe for DWI
Santa Fe police arrested four drivers overnight in separate incidents involving DWI, high-speed driving, crashes, and fleeing from officers.
Santa Fe Police Department arrested four drivers overnight Friday, July 17.
First, July, 17, at 10:30 p.m., a DWI Officer was conducting enforcement and education in the area of Cerrillos Road and Tesuque Drive when he observed a vehicle traveling 81 MPH in a 35 MPH zone. Officers say the driver attempted to flee from police, but struck a curb and damaged his tire. The driver, Christopher Hernandez, (19), he was arrested for aggravated fleeing law enforcement, reckless driving, resisting, evading a aaw Enforcement Officer, No License, Open Container and Minor in Possession of Alcohol.
Second at 10: 50 p.m., officers responded to a two vehicle crash at Cerrillos Road and Calle de Cielo. Police say Juan Carrillo Gonzales, (35) was observed to show signs of impairment and a DWI investigation was initiated. Following the investigation, he was arrested for Aggravated DWI and vehicles turning left at intersections.
Third, at 11:53 p.m., a DWI officer said they saw a vehicle driving dangerously and speeding the wrong way on a one-way street and nearly hit people and officers on foot. Police say the officer tried stopping the driver, but the suspect would drive away until they crashed near Cerrillos Road and Navajo Drive. The department said the driver, Ross Rivera, (39), was arrested and faces several charges including aggravated DWI, aggravated fleeing law enforcement, and resisting.
Fourth, at 2:12 a.m. Saturday, July 18, an Officer from a patrol team was conducting enforcement and education in the downtown area when he observed a driver traveling the wrong way on Galisteo Street. Officers say Matthew Maestas, (23), was observed to show signs of impairment. Following the investigation, he was arrested for Aggravated DWI (refusal), Careless Driving, Driving While License is Suspended, and Driving and driving on the wrong side of the street.
All four individuals were booked into the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Center. Police reminded the public that all suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
