A former Grant County Sheriff’s deputy who was caught on video killing a baby rabbit by throwing it up against a vehicle will avoid jail time after reaching a plea deal.According to court records, Alejandro Torres Gomez agreed to plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of extreme cruelty to animals on Monday, June 22nd. He also agreed to give up his New Mexico Law Enforcement Certification and will serve 364 days of unsupervised probation.Gomez originally faced a felony charge of extreme cruelty to animals in August, 2025, after the video went viral. He was eventually relieved of his duties with GCSO.
