Flood Watches in effect for parts of Eastern New Mexico today, Flood Watches issued for Western New Mexico on Sunday and Monday.

Date:

Expecting a nicely-timed break in the action for Saturday evening for the Trick or Treaters.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

An area of steady rain is falling across Southeast and East-Central New Mexico this morning, this rain is associated with Tropical Storm Vance. These showers in the eastern part of the state this morning are expected to track almost straight to the north up the New Mexico/Texas state line and there could be some locally heavy rainfall and flooding issues associated with it. For the central and western parts of the state it looks like rain chances will stay fairly low in just the 20% range, and afternoon temperatures will still climb into the 60s and 70s. Now late this evening and then overnight there will probably be a more organized and steadier batch of rain moving through Western and Central New Mexico.
While rain is likely early Saturday morning, those steady showers should be departing by sunrise, and then for the rest of Saturday around the state rain chances look quite low in just the 10% range. So for the Trick or Treaters, it does look like we will be able to perfectly time out a break in the action with skies probably staying dry, and evening temperatures in most spots will still be around 60 degrees – not going to need coats with the costumes! On Sunday though we have another big storm coming in off of the Pacific that will bring a rain likely scenario for most and a significant heavy rain threat to Western New Mexico and especially the 4-Corners area.
Monday will be a windy and much cooler day on the back side of that big Pacific storm with leftover rain and mountain snow showers for mainly Northern New Mexico. After Monday it looks like skies will settle down for several days. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are all looking dry around the state right now with cool fall temperatures settling in. Morning lows could be the new coldest of the season for many New Mexico communities on Tuesday and Wednesday morning!
