Flash flood warning issued for burn scars near Ruidoso

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a flash flood warning for the Blue 2, South Fork and McBride burn scar areas in Lincoln County, near Ruidoso. The warning is in effect until 530 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service, radar showed storms producing heavy rain over the Blue 2, South Fork and McBride burn scars. NWS warms flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. The excessive rain will impact the Rio Bonito, Eagle Creek, Cedar Creek and Ruidoso drainages. Some locations that may experience flash flooding include Ruidoso, Ruidoso Downs, Glencoe, Alto, Bonito Lake, San Patricio, Hondo, Tinnie and Hollywood.

Vulnerable properties in low lying areas are especially at risk. NWS urges people to move to higher ground and stay away from the burn scar area.
