Flash flood emergency issued for parts of Mora County

A flash flood emergency has been issued for parts of Mora County through 4:30 pm on Tuesday.
Thunderstorms producing heavy rain amounts between 2 and 3.5 inches have been observed. Additional rain between 0.5 and 1.5 inches are possible.
The National Weather Service says this is a “particularly dangerous situation” for Monte Aplanado, Canon Ledoux and Rito Cebolla.
Other locations that could see flash flooding include Mora and Morphy Lake State Park.
New Mexico Highway 94 between Mile Markers 14 and 16, near Ledoux, is currently experiencing flooding and rapidly moving water. County Road A005, also known as Monte Aplanado Road, is currently flooded.
Mora County Sheriff’s Office deputies and New Mexico State Police officers are currently patrolling and monitoring the affected areas. Motorists are asked to use extreme caution and follow all directions from law enforcement and emergency personnel. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS FLOODED ROADWAYS. Water may be deeper and moving faster than it appears, and the roadway underneath may be washed out or unstable.
