Fire burning in south Phoenix at mulch plant



The fire department said the fire broke out Sunday afternoon near 27th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road. Here are the latest details.

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Fire Department is battling a large fire at a mulch plant in south Phoenix, according to authorities.

The department said the fire broke out Sunday afternoon near 27th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road.

“Firefighters have elevated master streams in place and command is also utilizing on-site front loaders to assist in extinguishing this fire,” the department said in a news release.

Currently no structures are threatened by the blaze. The mulch plant is next to the Phoenix Fire Regional Training Academy. Firefighters were utilizing the space as placement for ladder trucks and other fire department equipment.
