We’re finishing the weekend with sunshine and heat for Father’s Day and the first day of summer. Highs statewide continue to trend well above average with triple-digit heat for some in eastern and southern New Mexico this afternoon. There is a Heat Advisory covering Chaves County from noon until 8 p.m., where temperatures up to 106 degrees are expected on Sunday. Albuquerque should reach the upper 90s to today, near 90 degrees for Santa Fe. Tonight, a cold front will swing through eastern New Mexico dropping Monday highs by about 10 degrees compared to the weekend heat. We are in monsoon season and so far, rain opportunities have remained low. There is a slight chance of an isolated strong to sever storm Monday evening for northeastern and north-central locations. Tuesday is an IMPACT Weather Day for Albuquerque with a forecast high of 100 degrees. The time frame to watch is between 2 p.m. And 7 p.m. We’ll see better rain chances for more of the state Wednesday through Friday.
