A father in San Juan County has been charged after his 11-month-old infant was found dead in San Juan County. According to the sheriff’s office, John Hannon was seen on a home security footage on Saturday, Feb. 7, pushing a stroller. The homeowner reported Hannon and told deputies that he did not have permission to be there. Deputies later located the stroller in a ditch. Deputies say that they had responded to a call for the missing 11-month-old near Flora Vista late in the evening on Feb. 8. by the infant’s mother. The mother alleged that Hannon had told her that the baby’s grandmother had picked the baby up. Hannon was then arrested on Feb. 9 on unrelated drug charges and deputies conducted a search for the infant, who was later found deceased in a remote area near Flora Vista, which was the same area where Hannon was seen on the home security footage. Sheriff Ferrari of the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office said in a release, “We understand how deeply upsetting this is for our community. We are working around the clock to gather evidence as to what and who is responsible for the death of this child. There is no threat to the public.”Hannon was booked into the San Juan County Detention Center and is charged with child abuse resulting in death (first-degree felony) and tampering with evidence (second-degree felony).The investigation remains active. The sheriff’s office says it will not be releasing the name of the victim to the public out of respect for the family.
