Men’s basketball coach Eric Olen and University of New Mexico Athletics have agreed to a new five-year deal for him to stay leading the Lobos program.The agreement could keep Olen with the Lobos through the 2030-31 season.The announcement comes from UNM Director of Athletics Ryan Berryman, who said the extension comes as Olen’s leadership has led to a successful start since he was hired in March 2025.”We are incredibly excited that Eric has committed to the Lobos for the long-term and he is well-deserving of this contract,” Berryman said. “Since his arrival on campus, he has worked tirelessly to enhance UNM’s reputation as a basketball power in the West and his success this past season despite having no returning student-athletes is indicative of his leadership. We are excited about the future of Lobo Basketball under Coach’s leadership, and I look forward to seeing him, his wife, Lauren, and his daughters in The Pit – Powered by Nusenda for the foreseeable future.”Olen led the Lobos to a 26-win season as the team clinched a semifinal run in the NIT Tournament before losing to Tulsa. The team finished with a record of 26-11.
