YEAH, NOT A BAD EASTER SUNDAY. SOME BREEZY WINDS OUT THERE, AND THEN WE GET A GOOD RAIN CHANCE FOR LATE MONDAY INTO TUESDAY. IT’S A SMALL RAIN CHANCE AND THEN WE’RE WARMING UP THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE WORKWEEK, HITTING 80 DEGREE TEMPERATURES BY THURSDAY. FRIDAY WE GET SLIGHTLY COOLER SATURDAY IN THE MID 70S, STILL GOING TO BE ABOVE AVERAGE, BUT THAT IS ANOTHER SYSTEM THAT WILL BRING US SOME RAIN AND SOME WINDY WEATHER IN THIS MORNING’S TOP STORIES. NEW MEXICO IS HEADING INTO FIRE SEASON UNDER VERY DRY CONDITIONS, RECORD HEAT AND SNOWPACK. JUST 17% OF WHAT IT’S NORMALLY THERE. DRYING OUT FUELS EARLY, AND IT’S PUTTING MUCH OF THE STATE AT RISK FOR EXTREME FIRE DANGER. IN THE MONTHS AHEAD. CREWS WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR CONDITIONS AND COULD PUT A BURN BAN IN PLACE IF NEEDED. AN ALBUQUERQUE RESTAURANT OWNER SAYS HE’S BEING CITED FOR TRASH THAT HE CLAIMS ISN’T HIS. ROBERT VICK, WHO OWNS VICK VITTLES COUNTRY KITCHEN ON CENTRAL, SAYS PEOPLE LIVING IN A BURNT OUT BUILDING NEXT DOOR ARE LEAVING GARBAGE AND THAT’S BLOWING ONTO HIS PROPERTY. VICK SAYS THAT HE CALLED 311 FOR HELP, BUT ENDED UP WITH A CITATION INSTEAD. THE CITY SAYS IT’S WORKING TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE. A MAN HAS BEEN CONVICTED IN BERNALILLO COUNTY OF SEXUALLY ASSAULTING A CHILD AND GROPING THREE WOMEN, COURT DOCUMENTS SHOW. HERMILIO LOPEZ, ALSO KNOWN AS HERMILIO LOPEZ ROSAS, ABUSED A GIRL WHEN SHE WAS TEN AND AGAIN AT 13 DURING A BIRTHDAY PARTY. THE JURY ALSO FOUND HIM GUILTY OF GROPING THREE ADULT WOMEN. HE WILL BE SENTENCED AT A LATER DATE. A JUDGE HAS BLOCKED A TRUMP ADMINISTRATION PLAN TO REQUIRE COLLEGES TO REPORT MORE DATA TO ON ADMISSIONS. THE POLICY WOULD HAVE FORCED UNIVERSITIES TO SHARE INFORMATION, INCLUDING APPLICANTS RACE TO SHOW THEY ARE NOT USING RACE IN ADMISSIONS. AFTER THE SUPREME COURT’S BAN ON AFFIRMATIVE ACTION, A GROUP OF DEMOCRATIC ATTORNEY GENERALS SUED, ARGUING THAT THE POLICY COULD VIOLATE STUDENT’S PRIVACY. THE. BUT THE JUDGE HAS ISSUED A PRELIMINARY INJUNCTION. WHILE PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP SAYS A MISSING U.S. SERVICE MEMBER HAS BEEN RESCUED FROM THE MOUNTAINS OF IRAN. ANOTHER CREW MEMBER WAS RESCUED FRIDAY AFTER IRAN SHOT DOWN AN AMERICAN FIGHTER JET. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME SINCE THE WAR BEGAN, WASHINGTON CORRESPONDENT JACKIE DEFUSCO JOINS US FROM THE WHITE HOUSE WITH THE LATEST ON THE RESCUE AND THE SERVICE MEMBER’S CONDITION. PRESIDENT TRUMP SAYS THAT THE RESCUED U.S. SERVICE MEMBER IS INJURED BUT WILL BE JUST FINE. HE SAID AFTER WHAT THE PRESIDENT DESCRIBED AS, QUOTE, ONE OF THE MOST DARING SEARCH AND RESCUE OPERATIONS IN U.S. HISTORY, HE SAID THE MISSION STRETCHED DEEP INTO ENEMY TERRITORY INVOLVING 24 HOURS OF MONITORING AND DOZENS OF AIRCRAFT, ALL AS IRANIANS WERE ALSO RACING TO FIND THIS U.S. CREW MEMBER. THE PRESIDENT SAYS THE SUCCESS OF THE OPERATION UNDERSCORES AMERICA’S AIR SUPERIORITY IN THE AREA. BUT THE FACT THAT IRAN WAS ABLE TO STRIKE DOWN THAT U.S. FIGHTER JET IN THE FIRST PLACE DEMONSTRATES THAT THEIR MILITARY STILL HAS THE ABILITY TO HIT BACK. NOW, IN THE SIXTH WEEK OF THIS WAR. IT COMES AS A POSSIBLE ESCALATION IS LOOMING. ON SATURDAY, PRESIDENT TRUMP DOUBLING DOWN ON HIS MONDAY DEADLINE FOR IRAN TO REOPEN THE LARGELY BLOCKED SHIPPING ROUTE, THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ, OR FACE DEVASTATING CONSEQUENCES. IRAN ONCE AGAIN THREATENING TO RETALIATE. Easter sunrise brings 10K believers to University Stadium
Calvary Church youth pastor Caleb Marra said it was powerful for all to see the sun rise on Easter Sunday.
Faith in Christianity united an estimated 10,000 people who came to an Easter Sunday sunrise service that’s been held by the Calvary Church for the past 20 years. Caleb Marra, youth pastor at Calvary, said the gathering showed how powerful it can be when a large congregation sees the sun come up on one of the most significant days of the year.”It’s what this builds, a great community, right?” Marra said. “When we’re believing in Jesus, and the Bible calls us to love one another very well, that’s what our world needs. We have so much disunity and we need so much more unity in the world today. Stuff like this is very, very powerful.” Among the congregants was Brittany Benton, who said she sought comfort and strength in a Christian program following the murder of her son. “It’s for a year, but then afterwards I’ll have a lot of healing under my belt, and I can turn my life over to Jesus Christ,” Benton said. She was asked about the importance of events like this to Albuquerque.”They’re very important for Albuquerque, in particular,” Benton said. “The crime rates are high, unusually high, perhaps, and because we need hope, we need faith. Human beings do so much better when they have faith in something. When they have hope, when they practice a religion, the outcomes are much better for groups of people.”Benton said her embrace of faith has been uplifting so far. “I’m finding out that being a born-again Christian is really great,” Benton said. “I feel so much love in my heart. I don’t just feel grief for my son. It’s really beautiful.”
