
Residents in southern New Mexico may have felt a jolt this Christmas. A series of earthquakes ranging from 2.5 to 3.5 magnitude occurred today about 40 miles south of Whites City.The United States Geological Survey has reported three earthquakes shook the area between 11:26 and 11:50 a.m. Thursday.The first quake occurred at 11:26 a.m., with a 3.4 magnitude. That was followed by a quake measuring 2.5 at 11:46 a.m. The third quake happened at 11:50 a.m. with a magnitude of 3.5.New Mexico residents living in Artesia, Carlsbad, Hobbs and Whites City may have felt tremors from Thursday’s activity. It’s not known if any structures were affected or damaged at this time.
