Date:

Yellowstone spinoff Dutton Ranch set streaming records with two debut episodes. Nearly 16 million people watched across multiple platforms.

  • Dutton Ranch debuted on May 15 on Paramount+ and that night on Paramount Network.
  • The show follows Beth Dutton and husband Rip Wheeler as they move to Texas following tragedy on their Montana ranch.
  • New episodes drop every Friday morning on P+.

Given the fluid nature of calculating viewership and a more gradual shift in viewing habits from traditional television or cable to streaming services, it’s difficult to compare Dutton Ranch numbers with shows like Yellowstone.

A closer example would be the The Madison, which debuted in 2026 on Paramount+ only.

Paramount says 12.9 million viewers watched Dutton Ranch on Paramount+ in seven days after its debut.

Additionally, 2.9 million watched on the cable channel, Paramount Network.

These numbers represent the biggest original series debut in Paramount+ history. Variety shares that the previous record was 8.8 million viewers for Mobland in 2025.

The Madison debuted with eight million viewers across 10 days after a quieter promotional period. The show also released three new episodes on back-to-back Saturdays to make up the entirety of Season 1.

Full Nielsen ratings will be available at a later date.

Dutton RanchWhat Critics Are Saying?

Critics are enjoying or even loving Dutton Ranch. Viewers agree that the show matches the tone of Yellowstone’s early seasons, before plot lines began to fray and plot holes started to swallow the action.

Rober Ebert says, “Reilly and Hauser pick up where they left off and continue their run as one of the strongest, sexiest, most bad-ss TV couples of the decade.”

ScreenRant suggested it may end up being better than the original, while Esquire says, “Dutton Ranch is the grand return of Yellowstone that Marshals isn’t.”

The latter is a veiled criticism of Marshals, the CBS procedural starring Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton. While true to the network TV genre, many have been disappointed in the action and writing.
