Dustie Waring has officially broken his silence regarding his absence from Between The Buried And Me, confirming on July 23 that he and the progressive metal band have formally parted ways. This announcement comes after over a year of legal disputes, public speculation, and a whirlwind of controversy that began when Waring was accused of sexual assault — a charge he has denied and which remains legally contested.
It all started when Waring began facing accusations of sexual assault in May 2023. Waring was replaced by guitarist Tristan Auman live for a little while, and then eventually rejoined the band on stage. Then Between The Buried And Me hit the road again this year for their Colors and Colors II tour, and Waring was once again not in the band.
Although Waring briefly rejoined his Between The Buried And Me bandmates for a stint in 2023, tensions remained, and by the spring of 2024, both sides had retained legal representation to resolve the deteriorating relationship.
In a candid and heartfelt statement shared today, Waring addressed the speculation and confirmed his official exit from the band he helped shape for over two decades. “Time for an update. I’ve been off the road for a while now, which hasn’t been easy, since music has been my life for as long as I can remember. While I haven’t spoken publicly about my absence until now, I feel it’s time to address the questions about my involvement with the band,” he began.
He continued, “After 20 years of albums, tours, and great memories, BTBAM and I have officially parted ways. The delay in saying something wasn’t about avoidance, time and privacy were necessary, and I truly appreciate your patience and understanding.”
Despite the difficult circumstances surrounding his exit, Waring expressed gratitude for his time with the band, the fans, and the entire Between The Buried And Me community. “I want to thank the guys in BTBAM, all of the fans, our crew, and the many companies and collaborators who made the last two decades an experience beyond anything I could’ve imagined as a kid. Growing up with all of you, onstage and off, has been one of the greatest gifts of my life.”
He also took a moment to thank those who supported him throughout the ordeal. “Thank you to everyone who’s checked in or sent kind words during this time, your support has meant the world and made a real difference.”
Perhaps the most exciting news for fans is that Waring isn’t stepping away from music. In fact, he revealed he’s been working quietly behind the scenes. “I’ve been quietly working on lots of new music and I’m excited to share more with you soon. Looking forward to seeing you all soon.”
