The Dodge City Roundup Rodeo, one of the largest Prairie Circuit Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) events, wrapped up its 48th annual edition, braving severe rain and crowning a new slate of champions along the way.
With more than $399,530 in total payout, this Prairie Circuit rodeo has the potential to significantly impact the PRCA standings. With less than two months remaining in the regular season, every dollar earned becomes increasingly crucial as athletes vie for a coveted trip to the 2025 National Finals Rodeo (NFR) in Las Vegas.
Earning the nickname “The Wickedest Little City in the West,” Dodge City is known for its Wild West legacy, cowtown culture, and outlaw past — a fitting backdrop for one of the most competitive stops on the PRCA trail. Today, it continues to draw the sport’s top talent.
Known as a key stop for steer roping competitors, this year’s event featured roper Vin Fisher Jr., who claimed top honors with an aggregate time of 36.7 seconds on three head.
In the barrel racing, Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi added another title to her storied career, clocking 34.16 seconds across two runs and earning $3,960. The win puts her in striking distance of WPRA frontrunner and reigning world champion Kassie Mowry, with less than $10,000 separating the two in the standings. Pozzi Tonozzi is preparing for what would be her 18th trip to the Thomas & Mack Center.
The tie-down roping daysheets were stacked with top talent, but it was 19-year-old New Mexico cowboy Kyan Wilhite who shined. He took home his biggest career win to date, earning $5,805 with an aggregate time of 17.5 seconds on two head.
Saddle bronc riding saw a three-way tie at the top, with standout cowboys Shorty Garrett, Ryder Sanford, and Tom Webster each marking 85.5 points. Garrett rode Frontier Rodeo’s Maple Top, Sanford was aboard Championship Pro Rodeo’s Colorado Kool-Ai, and Webster rode Mo Betta Rodeo’s Sweet Sue. Each cowboy took home $6,470. For Garrett and Sanford — both on the bubble — the win provides critical late-season momentum in their push toward NFR qualifications.
In the team roping, Cyle Denison and Lane Mitchell claimed top honors with a 10.7-second aggregate on two head, earning $5,617 each. Denison is chasing his second consecutive NFR appearance, while Mitchell eyes his first.
Five-time world champion steer wrestler Tyler Waguespack added another win to his résumé, posting a 7.7-second aggregate on two head worth $5,564. He is now preparing for what would be his 11th trip to the NFR.
In bareback riding, Oklahoma’s Jayco Roper stole the spotlight, scoring 88.5 points on Championship Pro Rodeo’s Ranch & Co. Time to earn $7,544. Roper is positioning himself for a return to Las Vegas after a strong 2025 season.
Breakaway roping also delivered big payouts, with more than $52,000 awarded in the event. Cowgirl Beau Peterson roped two calves in a total of 6.1 seconds to earn $4,737, wrapping up a standout 48th edition of the Dodge City Roundup Rodeo.
Athletes will continue their coast-to-coast campaigns during the week of Aug. 5–11, with major upcoming stops in Lovington, New Mexico, and Hermiston, Oregon.
