
A local disaster has been declared after severe flooding on Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning, Aug. 27.The Mora County Board of Commissioners declared the disaster at an emergency meeting on Wednesday. The National Guard was helping clear roads in Mora County on Wednesday evening, Sheriff Americk Padilla told KOAT via phone. “Our main priority right now is the safety of the constituents,” Padilla said.Padilla said residents in Mora County were still without power on Wednesday evening. The size of the outage was not known. The Mora-San Miguel Electric Cooperative told KOAT on Wednesday evening it did not know when power would be restored. NM 434 is closed in both directions between mileposts 5 and 8 due to severe flash flooding that occurred.The flooding has washed out several roads within the county.
