Finnish death metal newcomers Malformed have erupted from the underground with their full-length debut, Confinement of Flesh — a devastating blend of old-school American brutality and the eerie, oppressive atmosphere of early Finnish death metal. Released via Dark Descent Records, this highly anticipated record sees the Helsinki-based quartet fully embracing the genre’s foundational violence while pushing their sound into darker, more refined territory.
Formed in 2022, Malformed first made waves with their debut demo Uncontrollable Malformity, a raw and promising release that quickly caught the attention of underground tastemakers. That initial buzz led to a physical reissue by U.S. label Rotted Life, followed by a signing with Denmark’s Extremely Rotten Productions, who released the band’s EP The Gathering of Souls in 2023. That momentum carried them to stages outside of Finland and set the stage for this new chapter.
With Confinement of Flesh, Malformed have crafted an album that captures the genre’s timeless extremity while forging a distinct identity of their own. Fans will find themselves caught between punishing grooves and relentless blast beats, as the band channels the unhinged energy of classic American death metal and fuses it with the dread-drenched aura of Finland’s most iconic exports.
The album was recorded by the band themselves, produced and engineered by Felix Pennanen (of Disguised Malignance), and mastered by Lasse at Ballade Studios, ensuring a raw-yet-razor-sharp final product. The record’s sound is matched visually by a haunting cover painting from Icelandic artist Skadvaldur, whose work perfectly reflects the album’s suffocating darkness.
For longtime followers of the underground and newcomers alike, Confinement of Flesh positions Malformed as one of the most promising forces in contemporary death metal. Stream and purchase the album now right here.
