Deadly crash closes southbound lanes of SR 51 in Phoenix



DPS said the crash occurred in the southbound lane of SR-51 near Glendale Avenue.

PHOENIX — Two people died Monday night after a motorcycle crashed into a concrete median on State Route 51 near Glendale Avenue, officials said.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said the motorcycle’s operator lost control before hitting the wall and a nearby light pole at about 8 p.m.. The driver and a passenger sustained fatal injuries.

The two deceased individuals have been identified as Raul Ponce, 31, and Maria Sotelo-Santos, 26, both of Phoenix.
