Dangerous wind, cold, & mountain snow

Date:

Dangerous east canyon winds, a big chill down, & some mountain snow too

Dangerous east canyon winds target the east side of the Albuquerque metro Thursday night into early Friday.

Wind gusts could reach up to 65 mph Thursday night in the Albuquerque metro, which could bring down tree limbs and trees and cause power outages.

Before that, a powerful storm system passing to our north Wednesday will bring some northern mountain snow along with showers and thunderstorms to the 4-Corners region.

Temperatures will cool off on the back side of that system for Wednesday night into Thursday. Freezing temperatures are likely for the Upper Rio Grande Valley by Thursday morning.

Wind chills will dip into the 20s and 30s for many areas of northern New Mexico by Friday morning.

A weaker system brings a chance for showers and thunderstorms this weekend, favoring southern New Mexico. Locally heavy rainfall is possible too over southeastern New Mexico.
