Monsoon moisture will move into New Mexico starting Monday. Parts of the state will see daily rounds of showers and thunderstorms this week.
Temperatures climbed even high Sunday afternoon for parts of New Mexico with the heat hitting triple-digits in parts of the Albuquerque Metro to Socorro and Deming. Some monsoon moisture has started moving back into the state, bringing with it isolated storms in southern New Mexico up north to Santa Rosa and Tucumcari. A few of these storms dropped heavy rain and brought severe weather. The rain has mostly ended tonight, with a couple spotty storms still in southwest New Mexico.
More monsoon moisture will stream into New Mexico Sunday night into Monday, bringing scattered afternoon showers and storms from southwest parts of the state up to the northern mountains. Storms will be slow movers and could drop heavy rain, bringing a threat of flash flooding. Afternoon high temperatures will remain hot, but not as hot as today.
Even more monsoon moisture will stream into New Mexico into the middle of next week, bringing the best chance for rain across the state Tuesday through Thursday. The driest areas will be in southeast New Mexico and far northwest parts of the state. Storms will again be capable of heavy rainfall and flash flooding each afternoon. With the increase in moisture, high temperatures will be slightly cooler as well. Another good chance for afternoon showers and storms returns Friday, but it will be slightly lower than Thursday.
Drier air begins moving into the state next weekend as high pressure moves in overhead. While this will lower the chance for rain, isolated afternoon storms will stick around for parts of the state. Temperatures will also heat up again next weekend.
