Crash near Wickenburg shuts down US 93

The crash happened Thursday morning near milepost 179 near Tres Alamos Road, ADOT said.

WICKENBURG, Ariz. — One person was killed and several people were seriously injured in a four-vehicle crash in northern Arizona Thursday morning. US 93 is closed near Wickenburg due to the crash, ADOT said.

According to early reports, the crash happened around 7:40 a.m. at milepost 179 near Tres Alamos Road, northwest of Wickenburg. US 93 northbound is closed at State Route 71, and southbound is closed at the Interstate 40 junction.

Motorists should seek another route per ADOT’s advice. There is no estimated reopening time.

According to the Department of Public Safety, a box truck traveling northbound reportedly crossed the center lane and struck a commercial vehicle head on. The box truck caught fire upon impact.

Two other commercial vehicles were also caught in the crash, one rolling over along with its trailer.

First responders pronounced the driver of the box truck dead on the scene. Although the fire spread to nearby brush, it was contained by local fire agencies, DPS said.

It is currently unknown why the box truck veered across the center line. The driver’s identity hasn’t been released.
