ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The City of Albuquerque is offering $750 grants to help bring more public art to certain parts of the city.
The “Murals of Possibilities Grant” will offer funding for property owners and businesses located in Albuquerque’s Metropolitan Redevelopment Areas to team up with artists to create murals that transform spaces and inspire neighborhoods.
Murals are a wonderful way to uplift local artists and showcase the vibrancy, uniqueness, and warmth of our city and our communities,” Kaleena Madruga, Sol Housing community relations manager, stated in a news release. “When residents, visitors, and pedestrians are welcomed by a mural, they feel a sense of connectedness and belonging. Each of Sol Housing’s properties have a distinctive identity. Incorporating art into these spaces further uplifts our vision of everyone creating community, connection, and joy in a home of their choice.”
The grant offers up to $750 per project to cover artist fees, design, materials, and installation. Murals can be interior or exterior, but must be accessible to the public.
From selecting the artist to shaping the design, the program is designed to let residents and local artists take the lead.
Applications for the grant program are now open. Click here to submit an online application.
A free webinar will be held on Friday, Aug. 22, at Noon to walk interested applicants through the program. The session will cover eligibility, application requirements, and tips for submitting a strong proposal. Register for the webinar here.
