Is Brandon Lake the next artist to enter the country music chat? The Christian artist is teasing a new song that sounds very much like something you’d find in any country singer’s catalog.
In a video shared to social media, Lake sits in a barn and strums on his guitar. The song he’s playing tells the story of a cowboy with a heart that loves Jesus.
This man is humble in how he lives his life, but he knows the power of his prayers, because he believes in a God who can move mountains.
“When a cowboy prays / It starts raining in Oklahoma / Long lost sons come home to mama / And those stubborn horses break / When a cowboy prays,” he sings in what is likely the chorus.
“It’s a whisper and a rumble / It’s as strong as it is humble / This old world just ain’t the same / When a cowboy prays,” the emotional song continues.
Is Brandon Lake a Country Artist Now?
While Lake has not announced a move to country music, he has certainly leaned into the genre with his music as of late. He has collaborated with a few country singers on a handful of faith-filled tracks.
His song “Hard Fought Hallelujah” featuring Jelly Roll certainly put him on the genre’s radar. Two tattooed men singing about falling on their knees to worship the God of the universe regardless of their circumstances certainly got the internet talking.
Lake also enlisted the help of Gabby Barrett on a song called “As For Me and My House.”
This new avenue of musical collaborations hasn’t come without some pushback though. Lake says he’s been criticized by the Christian music audience for walking into secular spaces, specifically his appearance at Stagecoach where he sang with Jelly Roll.

Fans Have Chosen a Duet Partner for Brandon Lake’s “When a Cowboy Prays”
There aren’t many details surrounding “When a Cowboy Prays” at this time. Lake hasn’t shared a release date for the song, nor has he mentioned a potential duet partner.
That hasn’t stopped fans from chiming in with their opinion. Looking at the comments on the video above, it’s safe to say Cody Johnson is a popular choice.
“DUDE do I hear a duet with @codyjohnson in the future,” one writes.
“My brother @codyjohnson and you should do this one together!!!” another types.
“You should have @codyjohnson feature in this song!” someone else adds.
We’ll have to wait and see if this song becomes another smash hit collaboration for Lake. Even if it remains a solo offering, it might be Lake’s first crossover track on country radio.
11 Country Stars Who Speak Out About Their Faith
When it comes to country music, you don’t have to search for too hard to find songs that bring Jesus in.
Country stars tend to be bold in speaking out about their faith and the struggles they’ve had trying to walk that straight and narrow path to find God.
It’s also no surprise that many of fans’ favorite artists have either released Christian-leaning songs or have collaborated with gospel-singing neighbors.
We’ve rounded up several country singers who have unapologetically spoken to their faith for the world to see and who spread the Gospel, one song at a time.
