If you aren’t familiar with Bryan Andrews yet, get ready, because his name is about to start popping up more and more. The singer is one of only a small handful of country artists who are outwardly left-leaning, and extremely vocal about it.
Anyone with a big platform who’s overtly political — right or left — is bound to get some hate comments. Andrews says he’s received some that are flat-out death threats.
Andrews stopped by the Taste of Country Nights studio where he got more in-depth about what it’s like fielding some very negative attention.
Bryan Andrews’ Fan Army Defends Him From Hate Comments Now
The good news? Though Andrews definitely gets some folks in the comments section who don’t like his stances, he also has a robust fan army willing to jump in and defend him.
“I mean the hate comments will roll in sometimes. I have gotten to a point now on social media where I don’t have to defend myself in comment sections anymore,” he says.
“I’ve built a fan base and a community of people that are like-minded and they love the message, that are willing to go to bat for me, which is awesome.”

Lots of country fans lean right politically, so it’s not a huge surprise that negative or even threatening comments are a pretty common occurrence on Andrews’ social media.
Some take it a step further than just disagreeing with Andrews’ message, like attacking his weight or the way he looks.
And at least one was downright sinister.
“Dude, there was one that I was pretty sketched-out about,” he recalls. “I’ve never talked about this publicly, but there was one that was like, ‘Don’t worry you have an address too.'”
Andrews admitted that that one made him uneasy. “I was like, ‘alright, that’s a little fu—- up, you know what I mean?’ I was like ‘That one, that one was a little far.'”

But the singer also knows that “most of [the death threats] are just like kids, or some sh– that are on the internet that shouldn’t really have a phone and they’re like ‘Oh f— you! You should kill yourself,’ or whatever, but most of those people are not going to do anything.”
Bryan Andrews Has Also Had Positive Conversations With Fans Who Don’t Agree With Him
For Andrews, a bright spot of being vocally liberal in an often right-leaning genre has been learning that respectful dialogue is possible, even between people on opposite ends of the spectrum.
He says that he’s also connected on social media with users who disagree with him, but are willing to hear what he has to say.
“I think that those kinds of people are always very good about giving me a chance. Or at least seeing where [I’m] coming from,” the singer reflects. “There is definitely a group of people that, you know, are just never gonna see it. The people who…don’t wanna educate themselves about any issues or anything like that. That group of people, they’re never gonna change. So I ain’t talking to those f–king people.”
