Bolt, a German short-haired pointer, named TSA’s ‘cutest canine’
The Transportation Security Administration announced that its cutest canine of the year is Bolt, a 3-year-old German shorthaired pointer.
Bolt is among dozens of the TSA’s explosive detection canines across the country and is based at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport in Texas.
“I am ecstatic for Bolt,” said Daphne Wang, Bolt’s handler. “He is such a character and a hard-working little guy. He absolutely loves his job and coming to work. I am so happy he gets to show the world his quirky personality. It’s definitely an adventure working with Bolt every day. There is nothing ordinary about him. He works hard and plays even harder. He is always in working mode, even at home. He is never short on energy and is always 1,000% excited to go to work.”

Bolt was chosen from an initial 85 canines that search for explosives at airports across the country. The contest was then narrowed down to four finalists in different regions.
Bolt is the third German shorthaired pointer to be named TSA’s top dog in the last four years.
“Canines are an essential part of our team at TSA,” Deputy Administrator Ha Nguyen McNeill said in a prepared statement. “As cute as Bolt and our other canines are, the work they do is vital for TSA’s national security mission.”
The TSA has been doing the annual contest since 2019 and has also included Labrador retrievers, Visilas, and golden retrievers among its winners.
