Big storm system finally moves out today

Date:

Wind Advisories and High Wind Warnings in effect for much of Eastern New Mexico today.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

Early morning rain showers are moving through Central and Northern New Mexico early this morning, and there are some mountain snow showers going as well up around Chama and up into Southern Colorado. Most of these rain showers will move through by 7-8am, and then we will be down to just watching the north-central and northeast part of the state for some lingering scattered rain showers and also some mountain snow. As this storm system departs, we will have some gusty west winds to deal with this afternoon, the strongest of which will hit Eastern New Mexico. Wind advisories and high wind warnings in these areas will be in effect until 6pm today and peak wind gusts could be 55-60 mph! Do your best to secure loose objects and know that travel conditions will be difficult, especially on north-south oriented roadways.
Tonight as wind settle and skies clear out, we are in for a cold one with widespread lows in the 20s and 30s, for some of us it will be the new coldest night of the season. After the cold morning though, Tuesday looks pretty nice with a lot less wind and lots of sunshine. Afternoon highs will climb back into the 60s for most of us, pretty close to early November averages. Wednesday and Thursday will also be quiet days with lots of sunshine and temperatures creep up a few more degrees, however we could have a little rain and mountain snow close by in Southern Colorado.
There is a little uncertainty associated with Friday and Saturday and a small chance of rain, mainly for Eastern New Mexico, but this does not look to be a very impressive weather system at this time….otherwise quiet skies will continue around the state into and through the weekend. Temperatures look like they will stay close to early November averages though with highs in the low to mid 60s and morning lows close to freezing in the upper 30s.
