Baseball bat homicide suspect arrested, charged with murder
Darren DeHerrera, 30, was arrested for the beating that resulted in Dwane Burwell’s death.
An arrest was made Wednesday for the murder of a man who was critically injured with a baseball bat on Thursday, June 11, an Albuquerque Police Department news release said. Police arrested Darren DeHerrera, 30, who allegedly commited the brual beating of Dwayne Burwell, 46, near a smoke shop at 116 San Pedro Dr. Southeast. Burwell was found by police around 5 a.m.According to police, the beating caused multiple skull fractures, a laceration to the head with severe bleeding, a traumatic brain injury, scapula fractures, multiple spine fractures, injuries to his thighs, a possible injury to his abdomen, and a possible aortic injury.. Burwell was taken to the hospital and died three days later on Sunday, June 14.
