Balloons set to launch from elementary schools in ‘unofficial’ kickoff to Balloon Fiesta
Pilots are inflating and preparing to launch balloons from elementary schools across Albuquerque on Friday in the unofficial kickoff to Balloon Fiesta as part of Balloons Aloft.
In ABQ Aloft, hot-air balloons are launched from schools around the Albuquerque Metro.
Albuquerque Aloft is a unique event in that balloons are launched from pre-determined sites outside of Balloon Fiesta Park.

Parents, students and school staff are able to witness the balloons start inflation and take off. Those there will also be able to meet the pilots operating the hot-air balloons.
The event first began in 2005. For a complete list of the schools participating in the event, click here.
You can watch Balloon Fiesta on KOAT 7, KOAT.com and on the free Very Local App beginning at 5am on Saturday.
