Authorities close Socorro County roads due to flooding
Residents urged to shelter in place or seek higher ground as flooding closed parts of U.S. 380 near San Antonio and the Rio Grande.

The Socorro County Office of Emergency Management issues a county-wide severe flood warning on Friday amid a wave of storms that have been battering the state throughout the week.
The authority urged residents to shelter in place or travel to high ground, and to avoid driving through flooded roads.
“Evacuate to Finley gymnasium if you have nowhere else to go,” the office said.
The New Mexico Department of Transportation said US 380 eastbound and westbound just east of San Antonio and near the Rio Grande was closed due to standing water on the roadway.
“When the roadway is flooded, do not cross and seek an alternate route. Turn around, don’t drown,” NMDOT said.
