On Saturday, students from the American Sign Language Academy partnered with the Los Griegos Neighborhood Association for a community clean-up effort. The community clean-up initiative is part of the New Mexico True “Breaking Bad Habits” clean and beautiful statewide campaign.Sara Garcia-Ayres, Honey Badger Industries lead teacher, says that through the initiative, the students are hoping to maintain the beauty of the outside spaces. “We are proud of our students for taking time out of their weekend to help preserve the natural beauty of New Mexico and make our state a cleaner and healthier place to live,” she said. “We look forward to giving back to our community and making everyone’s holiday a little merrier.”Garcia-Ayres said that the agriculture teacher, Mr. Stu, is deaf and still emphasizes the importance of having a connection to nature.”It’s important to have a connection to nature and the outside, even if it’s just your own yard, to be a fulfilled person,” he said.That is the message they want to communicate and pass on to their students.They also highlight that when a community comes together, a little bit of help can go a long way.
