APD has placed six more officers on leave as part of the department’s ongoing DWI investigation.

So far, 17 APD officers and former officers have been implicated as part of the scheme that lasted almost 30 years until its exposure in 2024.

Two lawyers, a paralegal, an officer with the New Mexico State Police and deputies with the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office have also been implicated.

An Internal Affairs task Force was also created in January 2024 to conduct all administrative investigations into alleged misconduct by current and former APD DWI officers.

Fourteen officers have resigned, retired or been terminated during APD’s internal investigation.

The FBI conducted its own criminal investigation into the allegations of illegal conduct and nine APD officers who have left the department have since pleaded guilty as a result of the FBI’s investigation.

The APD Internal Affairs investigation into the six officers who were placed on leave this week is ongoing. The six have not been charged as part of the federal criminal investigation.

The identities of these six individuals have not currently been revealed.
