The Albuquerque Police Department will launch a new citywide initiative aimed at helping local businesses better manage tense and potentially dangerous situations in the workplace.The APD Crisis Intervention Team will host 12 free de-escalation training sessions at the end of May and into June. The sessions begin Tuesday, May 26, and Wednesday, May 27, at the South Broadway Cultural Center.Initial classes will focus on downtown and Nob Hill businesses. Each session will be limited to 50 participants and is designed to give employees the tools to respond to conflict, reduce risk, and improve overall safety.The training will cover real-world scenarios businesses commonly face, including frustrated customers, individuals experiencing behavioral health crises, and other interactions that can escalate quickly if not handled effectively.
