APD homicide detectives arrested and charged Kwamie L’Shuan Williamson for the shooting death of Juan Lopez. Officers say Williamson was arrested late Monday.
Williamson, 34, was driving a red Tesla early Monday and pulled up next to Lopez and a woman who were walking in the 100 block of San Pablo St., S.E. The woman told detectives that Williamson exited the Tesla armed with a rifle-style firearm and confronted Lopez. The woman said the two men got into a confrontation and Williamson shot Lopez once in the chest.
The woman said Williamson and another man got into the Tesla and fled the area. Lopez, 33, was transported to the hospital and later died as a result of the gunshot wound.
The female told detectives that she knew Williamson and he had been harassing her after a violent encounter recently, forcing her to move from her home three times to avoid Williamson’s behavior.
Detectives were able to identify the red Tesla as belonging to Williamson and found it abandoned in front of residence in Southeast Albuquerque.
Williamson is charged with an open count of murder, conspiracy to commit an open count of murder, aggravated stalking, conspiracy to commit aggravated stalking, tampering with evidence on an open count of murder, and felon in possession of a firearm.
