ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Josef Toney, who admitted to killing two people then escaped from the juvenile detention center, will be held behind bars.

Toney, 19, had escaped from the detention center before turning himself back in the following day. He was being held after pleading guilty to two counts of murder among other charges for shooting and killing Aerial Mallam and Jessica Lucero in 2021. Toney is scheduled to be sentenced in July. He is now facing new charges for the escape.
