
Residents of the state’s largest city might be surprised to hear this, but police say that they have been solving homicide cases this year at a rate far above the national average, an Albuquerque Police Department news release said.So far this year, APD detectives have solved 82% of homicide cases and charged or arrested 42 murder suspects. Detectives also solved 17 cases from previous years and arrested 32 murder suspects, the release said.”In other cities, murder suspects have a 50% chance of getting away with their crime,” APD Chief Harold Medina said. “In Albuquerque, murder suspects are going to jail, no matter how long it takes. As the number of homicides continue to fall, our homicide detectives are solving those and past cases so we bring justice to the families of victims.”Homicides in Albuquerque are 16% lower this year compared with the same time period in 2024, the release said.APD’s clearance rate for homicide cases has been above the national average for the past four years. FBI statistics show that the national average for police agencies clearing homicide cases is 58%.
