
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Two men are facing charges for the murder of an Albuquerque woman following a dispute over a motorcycle, Albuquerque Police said.
Three masked men, including Nicholas Lucio and Matthew Mitchem, confronted the victim, Ann Marie Chaires, on July 2 at a southeast Albuquerque apartment complex on Maderia Drive.
The men accused Chaires of selling Mitchem’s motorcycle, which he stored at the apartment, and demanded that she take them to get it back, APD said. Chaires reportedly denied taking the motorcycle and refused to get it back.
Accoridng to police, a witness said one of the men fired a single round from a handgun, hitting Chaires in the head. She died at the scene as a result.
Detectives obtained arrest warrants for Mitchem and Lucio on July 9 that charged them with an open count of murder and an open count of conspiracy to commit murder. Mitchem was arrested on Friday, July 11, and Lucio was arrested late Saturday. Both of the men were booked into the Metro Detention Center.
APD did not release any information about the third man who was allegedly involved.
