ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque mother charged with child abuse after police said her one-year-old was overdosing on fentanyl made her first appearance in court on Thursday. Police said 40-year-old Isha Garcia needed Narcan for an overdose in her room at the Days Inn on Candelaria Rd.
A criminal complaint states a housekeeper administered Narcan, reviving the child. Police said the baby and her twin were in a playpen, while their mother and others smoked meth and fentanyl. Garcia told officers her baby found a pill on the floor, which ended up being fentanyl.
The New Mexico Children, Youth, and Families Department said both children are safe. The state has asked for her to be held behind bars through her trial. She should have a hearing within the next week.
