
A man accused of shooting and killing an Uber driver is being held in jail after making his first court appearance on Saturday.According to court documents, Sheliky Sanchez has been charged with murder, armed robbery and tampering with evidence in connection with the shooting death of Joseph Andrus on Thursday.Court records say Albuquerque police responded to a shooting on the 400 block of Merlida Street SW around 3 am on Thursday. Officers found Andrus lying in the street after suffering multiple gun shot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.According to court documents, officers learned Sanchez requested an Uber driver around 1 am Thursday. Uber later placed an automated call asking if everything was fine because the Uber ride came to a stop but the ride had not been completed. Police say the vehicle was eventually located on the 10700 block of McMichael Lane SW. Sanchez and his girlfriend were detained after a SWAT standoff.Court records say Sanchez initially told police that he purchased the vehicle, but later admitted to ordering an Uber ride specifically to shoot the driver. According to court documents, Sanchez told police he filtered through several drivers before selecting Andrus.Sanchez is being held without bond at the Metropolitan Detention Center. His case now moves on to District Court.
