Albuquerque City Council tackles amendment to 'heart ordinance' Monday

Date:

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Monday marks the first day back for Albuquerque city councilors. On the agenda is an amendment to an ordinance that prohibits the sale of animals without proper permitting.

It’s called the Heart Ordinance, or the Humane and Ethical Animal Rules and Treatment Bill. Local advocates say the ordinance lacks enforcement, especially when it comes to Albuquerque’s unhoused population.

The amendment’s bill is sponsored by Tammy Fiebelkorn. Monday’s city council meeting will be held at the Vincent E. Griego Chambers starting at 5:00 p.m.
