Affordable summer activities to do across New Mexico
Hi, I’m Amanda Micon, and today on Absolutely Amanda, I’m exploring summer fun here in New Mexico. I’m gonna show you all the family friendly activities you can do without breaking the bank. Why not enjoy the great outdoors? Come to Tingly Beach, where kids under 12 get to fish for free. If you’re older than 12, you’ll need to make sure you have your fishing license. An annual pass costs just $5 for kids 12 to 17. Or get some exercise and explore beautiful trails along the Bosque. That’s free. Another option, invest in *** biopark pass. This family pass is $109 for two adults and 4 kids. You’ll get access to the zoo, aquarium, and botanic gardens. There are also discounts on educational classes, summer music series, and select special events. You can even use your pass for discounted entry in participating zoos and aquariums across the country. New Mexico is home to many beautiful national parks and monuments, and while most of them require *** fee, the petroglyphs are free and open to the public. You can also enjoy places like White Sands, Carlsbad Caverns, or Chaco Canyon for free on national holidays coming up June 14th, Flag Day, July 3rd through 5th. For Independence Weekend and August 25th to celebrate the National Park Service birthday, if you plan to take the family on the road this summer, an annual pass is $80 getting you into any park nationwide. Remember, we only get one planet, so while you’re exploring outdoors, be respectful, not destructive. Pick up your trash and be sure to leave it better than you found it. If you’re looking for something to do indoors, head to the movies. Check out theaters near you for discounts and membership information. Most are free to join. On Tuesdays you can get discount ticket prices at Cinemark Theaters, and if you download the app, you get an additional 50 cents off. Regal Cinemas offers discounted tickets for their Crown Club members on Tuesdays, and Regal Summer Savings offers 1 to $2 family movies Monday through Thursday for everyone, no membership required. Icon Cinemas has tickets starting at $5 on Tuesdays, or for movies about to leave theaters, you can. Get *** ticket starting at just $3 on Wednesdays and Thursdays or plan to have dinner and *** movie at Flick’s Brew House, offering movies for $555 dollars on Wednesdays. Or why not free? Spend some time at the Santa Fe rail yards for their free Movies Under the Stars. The action starts most Saturdays around 7 p.m. all summer long. If you’re interested in international, independent, or cult classic films, be sure to check out the iconic Guild Cinema here in Knob Hill. Local libraries are *** great way to beat the heat this summer and get kids off their screens. Library cards are free. Bring proof of residency and *** photo ID. Many locations offer free story times ranging from infant to elementary, *** great way to get your kids excited about reading. And that library card opens up even more fun. Check out the museum’s Discovery Pass program. This little gem gives you *** free day pass to participating museums. Soar sky high with the Albuquerque Balloon Museum. Dive deeper into New Mexican culture at the Museum of Art and History. Explore has lots of interactive exhibits for kids of all ages. Blast off at the Museum of Nuclear Science and History. Dig deep into the past in the Museum of Anthropology or Catch *** ride at the Wheels Museum, my personal favorite. You can even use them at participating museums across the country. Passes are limited, so once your fun is done, return it to your local library for another family to enjoy. And if you can’t get your hands on the pass, most ABQ museums offer free admission on Sundays. State museums and historic sites like Bosque Redondo, New Mexico History Museum, and National. Hispanic Cultural Center offer free admission for residents the first Sunday of each month. Another way to stay cool this summer is check out our public pools. Communities across the state welcome you to take *** dip. Admission ranges from 1 to $5 or splash into *** splash pad. These free water experiences are located across Albuquerque and are *** perfect way to cool down quick. Visit Alamosa, Civic Plaza, Manzano Mesa, North Domingo Baca, Phil Chacon, Tadpole Springs, Wells Park, Westgate, and West Mesa. Water isn’t your thing, maybe check out some summer music here in the ABQ. Wind Rock offers free concerts every Friday with *** variety of touring, local acts and food. It’s sure to be *** great time for the whole family. Be sure to check out the ABQ Summer fests across the city, multiple stages with lots of great acts and free to attend. There will be food trucks, local artisans, vendors, and so much more. Head to Santa Fe for the summer music series brought to you by Lensic 360 with over 30 free concerts to enjoy featuring local and national touring acts in iconic venues like the Railyard Plaza across the city. There are plenty of ways to have fun this summer for less than $20 *** day, or stretch the fun across the whole week with discount days available all week long.
