The arrest came a few hours after officers discovered a 17-year-old male who’d been shot in the head at the Coronado Condominiums.

Through interviews, officers identified a suspect who’d left the building after the shooting.

They observed Tobar-Recinos’ vehicle shortly before 4 a.m. at the Dakota Canyon Apartments.

The car was left in the parking lot with its lights off, but officers located Tobar-Recinos nearby. He fled on foot, leading to a 30-minute pursuit that ended in his arrest.

Tobar-Recinos has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, tampering with evidence, and evading arrest, among other charges.

The victim was transferred to UNM Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
