Lea County pipeline explosion leaves two dead

On October 6, at approximately 1:04 p.m. Lea County deputies were dispatched to an industrial accident involving a fire on a pipeline in the oil field near U.S. Highway 176 and Bootleg Road.

Upon arrival, deputies located two deceased individuals at the scene.

Investigators responded and conducted a thorough investigation and processed the scene. Deputies say the incident appears to be an isolated incident. There is currently no ongoing threat to the public.

At this time the identities of the deceased will not be released.

No further information will be released at this time. Lea County will provide additional information as it becomes available.
