MUNCIE, Ind. —

A 17-year-old high school football star recruited by West Virginia University was killed in a shooting in Indiana early Monday morning, according to police.

Christopher Wilson Jr., from Yorktown, Indiana, was reportedly found dead in a vehicle in Muncie.

According to WRTV, police say Wilson had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement posted to WVU’s X account, Head Football Coach Rich Rodriguez said, “The West Virginia Football program is heartbroken by the news of the tragic loss of Chris Wilson Jr. this morning.”

He went on to say, “We really enjoyed getting to know Chris during the recruiting process. The WVU football program sends its heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Chris’ family in this difficult time.”

Police have not released information on a possible suspect at this time.
