Kacey Musgraves Re-Releases ‘Uncertain, TX’ in Spanish With Intocable

“Having a song with the legends of Intocable is such a thrill for me,” Musgraves said in a statement

Kacey Musgraves is leaning further into música mexicana — and her Texas pride. The country singer has tapped the Texan group Intocable for a new Spanish version of fan-favorite track “Uncertain, TX.”

On the re-recording, Musgraves doubles down on the cumbia-inspired flavor of the track and sings entirely in Spanish as she harmonizes with lead singer Ricky Javier Muñoz. It marks the country singer’s first full Spanish-language song.

“Having a song with the legends of Intocable is such a thrill for me,” Musgraves said in a statement. “As a Texan, I am proud of the cultural melting pot that makes our state so great and this collaboration is such a fun example of that.”

Intocable have been shaping Mexican pop culture with their norteño hits since the early Nineties. In recent years, the sextet have continued to prove their staying power. Last month, the band performed to a crowd of 300,000 at the famed El Zocalo Capitalino in Mexico City to celebrate Mexican Independence Day.

While it’s the first time Musgraves has recorded an entire song in Spanish, it’s not the first time she’s worked with música mexicana artists. Last year, the singer collaborated with one of the genre’s most prominent voices, Carin León, for bilingual track “Lost in Translation.” “I’ve always loved exploring the borders of country [music] and where it blends with other styles like norteño and some regional Mexican sounds that I heard a lot of in Texas,” Musgraves said at the time.

On her latest release, Middle of Nowhere, the country singer explored the borderland history of Texas by tapping into música mexicana across several tracks, including “Uncertain, TX.” Since then, the song has become a hit in the Lone Star State, reaching No. 1 at Texas Radio.

The collaboration comes as Musgraves brings her Middle of Nowhere tour to her home state with five shows across Houston, Dallas, and Austin. It’s a very Texan time for the country singer — but really, when isn’t it?
