Impact rain increases flash flood risk Monday through Wednesday
Plan on scattered showers and isolated storms statewide
A period of several rainy days begins Monday with impact showers and storms across the state. We’ll start with a slight chance for morning showers with heavier rain arriving after lunchtime.
Flood Watches begin at noon and continue into Wednesday morning. Highs on Monday will be a bit cooler, reaching 75 degrees in Albuquerque, 70 in Santa Fe. Mostly cloudy and cool Monday night with scattered showers continuing.
Isolated thunderstorms are possible. Rain may become heavy at times, elevating the risk of flash flooding. The overnight low drops to 57 in Albuquerque, down to 54 in Santa Fe.
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are Impact Weather days for rain and storms. Many areas could see one to three inches of rainfall in just 24 hours. Where repeated downpours occur, the totals could reach four to six inches.
Rain tapers off for most by Wednesday night. It will feel like Fall as temperatures tumble well below average due to the cloud cover, rain and a shift in wind direction from the north and northeast. We will dry out and warm up through the end of the week. So far, the opening weekend for Balloon Fiesta looks great!
